“A user interface is like a joke, if you have to explain it, then it’s probably not that good.” - Martin LeBlanc

A comic strip comparing UI and UX. The UI side shows a woman and a child playing with plush toys in a crib, with the woman saying 'I love it!'. The UX side depicts a top view of colorful plush toys arranged in a circular pattern, resembling a user experience diagram.

STORY TIME

I once ran a usability study to determine why customers weren’t adopting the third major relaunch of a multi-million dollar corporate initiative. In every session participants were easily able complete all tasks. Everything would go smoothly… until the very end when I asked them —

MATT: “Would you use this product?”

PARTICIPANT:No way! I get all of these same benefits automatically applied through my credit card, so why would I go to your site and do a bunch of extra steps to get the same benefits?

The real friction wasn’t the user interface, it was the value proposition!

Book a 20-minute intro

That’s the kind of work I love. Insight that turns the wheel. Strategy that unblocks momentum.

Over the last 14 years, I’ve facilitated high-stakes workshops, led ground-up research, mapped invisible journeys, and helped shape products that actually work for people. Whether it’s UX research, innovation planning, consulting, or enterprise storytelling—the through-line is always the same:

Start with people. Solve what matters. Then get moving.
